Announcing the Hub: Intersections of Interaction Design

Hi all,

For the last few months at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea,
I've been developing The Hub (http://hub.interaction-ivrea.it ), a
resource and discussion site on interaction design.

We've officially launched today, in conjunction with the Foundations
of Interaction Design Symposium -- and we're discussing the symposium
as it happens on the Hub blog.

Survey result interpretation

39% in favor of creating a new org, 61% not in favor of creating a new
org. That is not exactly conclusive, is it? Or am I missing something?

My (quick) reading of the free-form comments suggests more than anything
else that the list participants who chose to elaborate on their answer
do not form a homogeneous group or a unified opinion. There is huge
variability in assessments of existing organizations, in the value of
practical tips vs.

task flow pattern question

Hi,

I'm building a simple one page (three fieldset: trip info, personal
info, payment info) online reservation form and need to create a
functional spec of the task flow. My question is about the consensus
concerning this or similar patterns.

OO Interface Design (on behalf of Andy Watson)

My apologies if I mess this up. Its rather difficult for me to use email
to access discussion forums.

I'm a bit of an object purist, so I'm interested in learning all about
UI from this point of view.

I used to like working with the OS/2 workplace shell, and also with stuff
such as OpenDoc and SOM (system object model).

I also used to like working with Word Perfect 5 back in the old DOS days
(for those that don't know it. It was a word processor that when fired
up, presented the user with a plain blue screen with no menus or any other
visible clutter.

Pattern usage

Hello everyone. Twice this week, existing UI pattern collections have
been mentioned on this list -- the Welie pattern site, and my own
(http://www.welie.com/patterns and http://time-tripper.com/uipatterns).
In preparation for a local UPA talk, I'd like to find out more about how
people use them.

* Are you familiar with the "pattern" concept, as used by the
"Design Patterns" and "Design of Sites" books, Christopher Alexander,
and the sites mentioned this week?
