I appreciate getting these meeting reports, and thereby being included
in local IxDG activities. I'd say, anyone who posts meeting notices
should feel free to post reports.

Re: Professional development; employer expectations

As I said, this is where I get cynical from employment a previous company....if I wanted UI training-- forget it; if I wanted to take classes on java, JSP and become a developer, I'm sure I could have swung that, but I have completely no interest in that

>From an employer perspective, it is less expensive to train existing employees, considering the improving market. However, I think it is wrong to advise designers to go into a situation and think of professional development on the same level as "medical benefits" and demand that.

OT: Digital Photography Book

Sorry this is totally off-topic, but I thought this community might
have a good recommendation for a digital photography book, and AskMeFi
costs $5. I have specific requirements:

It's for my dad. He's an expert, professional level photographer. He's
been taking pictures for a half century (though he doesn't like to
think about it in those terms) and taught classes at Parson's many
years ago.

On the other hand, he's a computer newbie.
