Auto-forwarding of Cursor

We've been having a friendly discussion at work about using a script to
advance the users cursor in a web form when we have a text box with an entry
of denfinate length, such as a phone number or Social Security Number.
(Sorry to be US-centric, but it's a form for U.S. residents.) Both of these
controls are implemented as three separate boxes.

I'm not a fan of this, as I feel it makes it difficult for the user to keep
track of where the cursor is whether they are advancing with the tab key or
their mouse, and it can only be done on a minority of fields.

"The trouble began Thursday morning, when a trader at
Mizuho Securities tried to sell 610,000 shares at 1
yen (less than a penny) apiece of a job recruiting
firm called J-Com Co., which was having its public
debut on the exchange.

It had actually intended to sell 1 share at 610,000
yen ($5,041).

Worse still, the number of shares in Mizuho's order
was 41 times the number of J-Com's outstanding shares,
but the Tokyo Stock Exchange processed the order
anyway.

Mizuho says another trader tried to cancel the order
three times,

dashboards

Howdy,

We have been working on a portal type application and have the notion of a
customizable dashboard. So far in usability testing 6 out of 6 users have no
idea why we have a page call dashboard. It doesn't quite seem a problem
in function, but in metaphor.

Has anyone had this type of feedback?
