search, results, refine

Does anyone have examples of a search interface where the user can conduct a
broad search, then continue to refine the search by filtering and sorting,
or modify the search or begin a new search.

I am interested in cases where the date/time ranges are involved.

On a related note - is it good practice to let users conduct a broad search
or limit the initial search and then have the user refine the search using
additional properties?

Do end users understand the concepts of filtering and sorting?
When is the result set too large for the user to make the next choice (in
this context) ?

Any insights on shifting context?

At my current gig we are developing IxD for a "bulletin board" feature that allows you to get to the same message record from several different areas of the site.

The current client wisdom is to store the target message pages in a subsection under tab "Z". You can get to message pages from source webparts that may be on several different pages under several different other tabs.

It is not possible to store the message as a part of the webpart (i.e.

Online Whiteboard App

Does anyone know of software or services that allow online collaborative
whiteboard sketching? I work with designers in various locations and we lack
the ability to quickly sketch and discuss design concepts. In most cases, we
have to review and discuss as the concepts are delivered. This ends up
wasting a lot of time and prevents us from coming up with innovations as a

Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
