Did you go to CHI? What did you think?

So, 2006 marked my fifth year in a row of not attending CHI.

From what I heard before the conference, CHI made a concerted effort
to better appeal to practicing and professional designers.

So... did it work? Was CHI noticeably different, and hopefully
better, than prior years?

Designer/Developers in San Francisco Bay Area

Hello,

We are conducting a field study to gather information about how
designers (of any type) use web metrics to make decisions on product
design and development. We are looking for both designers working on
client work, or designer/developers working inside a company on a
single product. We would like to visit your place of business and
interview you for approximately 90 minutes. We are offering $100 to
anyone who participates in the study.

What is interaction?

I started a course on MA Design For Interaction in September 2005.
Coming from a design background, I was interested to experiment and
understand how design can clarify and define the role of interactive
media especially online. At the same time I started working on an
online fashion project with a programmer for technical support.
Together we were determine to try and change the way clothes are
catalogued online.

IM and Command-Line Interfaces

Interesting post by Tim O'Reilly makes the connection:

Mixing command-line simplicity with natural language sometimes makes
sense.

Total Immersion's D'Fusion technology

The following is an interesting (although poor quality) video demonstrating
augumented reality technology developed by a company named D'Fusion.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3857855347623051125&q=video+revolution+demo&pl=true

I ran into this video today while reading some of the speculation
surrounding what the Nintendo Wii might have up its sleeves.

I would love to hear what your thoughts are about the potential of this kind
of technology :)

Cheers,

Tanee

RIA design model?

Hi everybody,

Currently I'm working on an essay about Rich Internet Applications. In this
essay I'm trying to find and/or create a model for the development of RIA's.
This model should help people along in their thinkpad towards creating RIA's
which are created for users (user centered design) and with all the benefits
a RIA should have (seamless, connected, etc.).

Nussbaum on Phillips Design (Is it "the best"?)

http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/NussbaumOnDesign/archives/2006/04/is_philips_the.html?campaign_id=rss_blog_nussbaumondesign

I'm not too keen on answering the question that Bruce poses about what
is the best design firm, but the bulk of the article is a nice Phillips
puff piece that is worth the read.

Anyone here an IxD at Phillips Design?
