Poll Place Photo Project: Getting the Word Out

A friend working with Design for Democracy writes...

Hi there:

I wondered if I could ask your helping in getting the word out about a
project.

We¹re launching a national experiment to photograph every polling place in
America. Our partners are Design for Democracy, Design Observer,
NewAssignment.Net, and NYU Department of Journalism (Jay Rosen). It is
critical that we get the word out about the project, so that others can
learn about it.

Physical vs. Digital Buttons

Interesting post about digital vs. mechanical buttons:

"Sometime about 2-3 years ago, the saturated consumer electronics
industry, hungry for new but matured technology, has been exploring
what we designers call “static” buttons. These “static” buttons are
essentially non-mechanical (ie non-moving) and use electronic
circuitry as a means to detect triggering contact.

...

I am starting to feel such non-mechanical buttons actually reduce the
user experience rather than enhance it.

Companies Annual Spending on UX?

Hi!

Where can I find the information on how much money companies spend on
information architecture, interaction and user experience designs and
usability activies?

Are there surveys or reports about annual spendings in these areas?

Interactive video on two screens

Hi All,
I just joined this list and am not sure if I'm in the right area, but...here's my question.
I'm a web designer and I just got a new job at a major university. The first thing my boss wants me to do is ... okay, let me try to explain:

There is a big screen monitor with a smaller touchscreen below it in the lobby of one of the buildings. Right now the big montior shows a powerpoint slide show and the touchscreen does nothing.

Bill Moggridge talk at Ideo tonight (Bill DeRouchey)

"Only recently"?!

As a design consultant that's combined industrial design with
interface/interaction/experience/system design since 1983, I can only
boggle at such a claim.

I mean, even with ZIBA, Bill, its founder Sohrab Voussoughi visited
me at my office in the early 1990s to discuss interaction design and
the importance of whole product design. And my work in collaboration
with Lunar Design went back years prior to that.
