Usability as Feature

I'm branching from an earlier topic in which this statement was made:

"Maybe you can re-frame your usability improvements as features?"

I've thought about this several times in recent months while reading
this list.

I think is a perfectly good idea. Users will appreciate a more usable

Usability testing software for Mac?

Hi everyone,

My company's working on a new Mac product that we will be doing usability
testing on. We use Morae for our Windows products and like the features it

We're looking to find something comparable for testing Mac software. We are
doing testing on-site, so remote testing software is not necessary.
However, we would like reliable screen capture. Remote observer capability
and real-time marking/flagging would also be nice to haves. For those who
have experience with testing Mac software, would you be able to share your
experiences and process?

Developing a Usability Ma

Hello all,

For a couple of weeks I had been thinking about developing a Usability
matrix which can be applied to any project in a product development /
software services company. The quest is to develop a standard set of
usability factors to measure the effectiveness of usability efforts invested
on a project. The main purpose is to measure and translate by what extent
the project success can be defined.

Anyone succeeded in getting a usability-only release?

Have any of you ever succeeded in getting a software release dedicated solely to usability fixes? I guess I'm primarily addressing in-house specialists... presumably consultants are often engaged to address solely usability.

Thanks, www.jackbellis.com

how to treat passwords when creating a new user

Hi all,

I'm working on a project where one user creates the accounts for several other
users (typically one manager to 4 to 20 operators). It's an equipment (not
office environment, not web) and the operators may have only a numeric keypad.

We've seen 3 options so far:

1. When the manager creates an account, he also creates a password for that
user. It's up to the manager/operator relationship to make that the real
password or to require the operator to change it (the system won't care about it).
