Aural Tones

Hello IxDA -

Working on a site re-launch and the creatives are hoping to find "musical
tones" that are not too offensive for the site surfer -- a simple auditory
cue for the site visitors.... anyone have any ideas where I can find a
sample of these?

many thanks for any leads,
Andrea

Pointers for international customer visits

Greetings -

I'm looking to the group for advice, warnings and best wishes...details
below.

Next week, I am embarking on a 4-week world tour to visit customers (and
potential customers) in the US, Asia (India & China) and Europe (Turkey,
Poland, France, UK and Germany.) While originally slated as a market
research trip concerning concepts for a new product, I have worked my way on
to the agenda in order to conduct user research and collect feedback to
early concepts for the user interface and industrial design.

We have a lot of different tasks we are trying to accomplish at each site

Symbol / icon for "Clear All" button

Hi,

I'm currently working on an on-screen keyboard as part as the GUI for a set-top box (for typing in passwords, urls etc). I have found that there seems to be a pretty consistent use of symbols/icons for function keys such as Backspace, Shift and Space on existing physical keyboards and mobile devices. So these symbols are pretty well known amongst users. For instance, an outlined up-arrow as the shift symbol.

Task completion benchmarking

Hi all,
I would like to hear about processes and techniques that you use for
measuring and comparing task completion rates between two software
applications.

To explain a bit in detail...
I want to compare the ways two similar applications follow to help a
user perform the same task.
The parameters I am thinking of comparing are.
1) Time
2) Number of clicks
3) Satisfaction rates
4) Intuitiveness
etc...

Thanks for your help in advance.

A tool for managing use cases / requirements

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a project where we're entering into a large requirements
analysis stage. This will involve a large number of use cases (often called
scenarios). The use cases need to be directly tied to corresponding
requirements. There will be high and low level use cases, with some as
subsets of others. Additionally, they need to be tied to user roles (and
personas at times), and there will often be a many-to-one pairing between
roles and uses cases, and requirements and use cases.

Back to Basics

I got frustrated with Visio the other day, so I wandered around the
office looking for pencils. Lo and behold, there was a stack of
unsharpened #2's and an electric sharpener right next to it! I
sharpened a few (the last I did that was 7th grade, I think ...) and
set to work with a stack of typing paper.

Who knew that re-discovering ye old pencil-and-paper would be so
refreshing? Now I don't have to waste creative "sparks" on coaxing
Visio to give me what I want.
