innovation metrics

There is an interesting article on the business week site regarding the US governments initiative to develop a metric for innovation. It will likely bemore of an economic indicator, but may well lay the ground work for corporate and academic metrics as well.

Peter Drucker said the only two investments in a business are markeitng and innovation. Everything else is a cost.

In the short run, I think innovation metrics within an organization will be focused on controlling expense. In the mid run it will be about measuring ROI.

Time Entry

I've scoured the pattern libraries for various methods of entering
time of day into a form and have come up empty. I need to determine
the most efficient way for a user to enter a specific time. Options
include a single field, multiple fields (hours, minutes), single or
multiple spinners, or multiple menus. If anyone has other
suggestions, has seen examples, or would just like to offer an
opinion, I'm all ears.

Designing for business vs consumers

My company is designing a fairly complex web application that will target
small to medium businesses. The folks here keep referring to sites like
www.snapfish.com (lots of pictures - minimum text) for home page design
ideas. My objection is that those types of sites are directed to consumers
and a business owner will have to have more information to make purchasing
decision.

Are there different usability approaches in designing for B2B vs B2C?
Any suggestions on how to design for businesses?

uiGarden, the only UX webzine that published in both Chinese and English
needs YOUR help!

Since its launch in January 2005, uiGarden has attracted visitors from all
over the world. Currently about 60% are from China, 40% are from the rest of
the world (data for March 2007). In March 2007, it had on average over 1,100
daily page views and almost 500 unique visitors everyday. The number is
still growing very quickly.
