Thoughts on OLPC/XO Laptop User Experience?

I'm curious whether members of this list have been following
developments with Nicholas Negroponte's OLPC (One Laptop Per Child)
project and its effort to put its XO Laptop, and open-source Sugar
operating system/environment into children's hands in developing
countries. The project seems potentially important to interaction design
at a number of levels in terms of both in terms of its innovative
hardware and the unique user experience.

IxDA Community and Job Posts

Hi all,

After checking out the new community site, I believe that I will
probably change the way I'm subscribing to this mailing list. Instead
of receiving everything through email, I would probably subscribe to
the feed and use the community forum a lot more as I prefer this way
of interaction.

When checking out the beta, the IxDa Recent Discussions are filled
with Job posts.

New beta.ixda.org ready for community to use and evaluate

Dear IxDA Community:

We have some great news for everyone!

It's with great excitement that the IxDA Board of Directors announces
the availability of the beta version of a new IxDA community
experience. Through the efforts of IxDA volunteers, and spearheaded by
community member Jeff Howard, we are pleased to launch the beta

We believe this effort is the start of creating a new kind of
professional organization.

My History, My Profile, My Reports, My I\'m confused

Hi Mark,

As a designer on the Yahoo Personalization team we did a user study to check user perceptions of the word "my." Users tended to dislike use of "my" for anything that they had not actively specified. So if the user had actively changed lists, or bookmarks they were fine with My Lists and My Bookmarks. Whereas when the system made a recommendation for things like articles or movies, saying My Movies, or My Must Read List would not meet their expectations.

Based on our research, using "my" would be appropriate for your labels--except history.

My History, My Profile, My Reports, My I'm confused

I looked at a wireframe I created on Friday in confusion this morning.
What was I thinking with all those "My" tabs and what is the difference
between them? Has anyone else got comments or user research on such
Names in a web application?
In my case the app's main functions are to allow the user to search a
Engineering Parts and Specification document database, list parts found,
compare parts and export information. The idea of My Profile was to be
where the user could customize the Home page to only see content of
interest based on their industry, i.e.

thoughts

Not sure if anybody else has read Jon Kolko's book "Thoughts on
Interaction Design", but I found it to be a bold series of
commentaries on what we do. I don't always agree with what Jon says,
but I love his choice of topics. Great stuff - on a lot of issues
that don't often get talked or written about. He has included some
articles by others as well - Ellen Beldner's piece (google) is
particularly good. I chuckled in empathy at least a dozen times.

Please advice: Interaction Design at Umea Insititute of Design or New Media at Media Lab (UIAH)?

Hi All,

I am from India and seek advice from all the members of this group in
helping me in taking an informed decision.

I have got admission calls for Masters in Interaction Design at *Umea Institute of Design, Sweden* & also for Masters in New Media at *Media Lab, University of Art & Design Helsinki* *(UIAH) Finland*.

I am confused which one to opt for as both are quite reputed in their own
field & both the programs seem equally attractive.

My back ground: B.Tech.
