Catalyze Community

Check out this new community. It's interesting to bring BA's together
with UX/IA's in a single forum, particularly when Interaction
Designers need to become more involved in the business in order to
evangelize usability with in their org.

how do you record your interviews?

I've got some user interviews coming up next week and I'm wondering how you
all record them, or if you even do record them. It will be a mixture of face
to face and phone meetings. At least one meeting will be held outside. Any
recording device would have to be really flexible.

Am I better off just listening really well and taking summary notes and not
worrying about recording?

Thanks

LA IxDA Group

Hi All,

I have a friend in LA who is very interested in finding a local IxDA group.
I know there used to be one when Liz Bacon was down there, but now that
she's in Portland has anyone else taken over that role?

Thanks in advance!

CNN interview

Hi, all!

Did anybody see some interview on the CNN day ago? I saw small fragment of
it about end and did'nt realise what guest was in the studio.
The interview was dedicated current mobile phone trends and words
"usability" and "easy of use" as the main market trend occured permanently.
I want to get the video of this inreview.

NYC IxDA Event: Design Style and IxD, Thursday, July 26th

Hi Everyone,

This month's NYC IxDA event will feature Chris Fahey, who will talk about
how style whether we like it or not, is a core aspect of our work. If you'd
like to attend, please send your RSVP to nyc-rsvp at ixda.org.

Description:
**Interaction Design Style**

IAs and UX designers are often exceedingly careful to draw a sharp
distinction between style and substance.

design school web sites (was: In case you knowanyone who might be interested...)

Sorry, but I couldn't watch any longer...

In theory, I agree that to attract the very best, innately talented *new*
interaction designers, its site must speak to their sensibilities for
usability, elegance, aesthetics, etc. On the other hand, a Design School
Web Site's primary purpose is to acquire new applicants and/or facilitate
the application/education process (people learning about the school). Yes,
I am turned off by poorly designed web sites, and yes, I might use that to
weight my selection.

New Study: Celltop Usability Worse Than Wap

For Immediate Release
New Study: Celltop Usability Worse Than WAP

July, 2007: New York City: Usable Products Company's recently-completed
report, "Celltop Usability," found that Celltop was harder to use than WAP.
Alltel's Celltop is a mobile widget solution, which Usable Products studied
alongside Axcess Web, a WAP portal, on LG's AX8600 mobile telephone.

According to Scott Weiss, President of Usable Products Company, "Mobile
widgets are 'Web 2.0' for phones." Mobile widgets are highly interactive,
Internet-aware applications.

Research on utilization of pop-up blockers

Does anyone have or know where I could find any quantitative research on
the utilization of pop-up blockers?

Specifically, I'm trying to make the case to a client that their pop-ups
might be blocked by:

- The visitor's ISP

- The visitor's browser, either by default or by a
user-selected setting

- A browser plug-in

Any numbers that speak to any of these claims would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Dante
