Uses of Wireframes (was: Contract Rates going at $150 - $250/hr ??)

I use them for devices and Ajax apps all the time. Anything with
visual controls and inputs can be wireframed.

I agree they aren't a tool for voice-input though. Annotated flow
diagrams seem to be the best option there.

Where would you rather be? (was Contract Rates)

We pay $75/hr for a usability engineer quasi interaction designer in Philly.
I do the actual graphic/web design work (putting everything together,
providing living prototypes for him to test). Of course, we're a
non-technical industry (healthcare) and have other UCD folks on staff, but
he tells me we're in his low range.

Please smack me if this type of discussion is off-limits here...

On a similar note, I'm pondering a move, and wondering whether freelancing,
finding a design agency, or a full-time position is better.

Contract Rates going at $150 - $250/hr ??

Hope everyone had a nice holiday...

Today I talked to a recruiter that is looking for visual
designer/interaction designer combo. Not really my cup of tea. But in our
conversation he said the following:

1. There is a severe shortage of interaction designers

2. IDs are charging between $150 to $250 per hour for contracts and easily
getting picked up for projects

Are you seeing this same trend out there?
