Article: The Secret of Apple Design

Great article from Technology Review (MIT) on Apple Design

(free registration required).

Through much of 1982 and into early 1983, Jobs searched for a sympathetic
design partner; he finally found one in Hartmut Esslinger of Frog Design.
Together, the two companies developed the "Snow White" design language that
was meant to give Apple's products a coherent visual vocabulary, the
appearance of being related.

That vocabulary featured, among other things, lines

(job) Product Analyst (User Experience focused), Redwood City

Hi list -
This position would be a really great stepping stone for an
interaction or user experience designer who wants to move their career
more into product management. Having a strong background in consumer
user experience and how to present information in a
compelling-not-overwhelming way would be a major plus.

(job) XHTML/CSS/JS/Web 2.0 Prototyper, Redwood City, CA

Hi list -
I'm posting the first of two job openings at my company that are not
Interaction Designer positions but hopefully are folks that you rub
elbows with.

Yodlee values great design and there is a ton of opportunity to have a
real impact on our products and talk with our enthusiastic beta user
community. This is a really unique high-visibility project that this
position will be working on (think millions of users).

Are you interesting in working on building web front-ends that use Web
2.0 technologies for good and not for evil?

How can QA help UI team

I have been asked by the QA Manager how her team can help UI,
particularly in regards to any spec docs her team can refer to when
testing. Her team is under resourced so its not a matter of they are
looking for something to do. :)
Since I am a one man team in a mid size ( >2000 employees) international
company my UI involvement tends to be idea generation, lots of research
and acting as a catalyst to let other dev teams know about unique design
solutions from their colleagues around the globe. As such I do not see
value in spending my time writing huge spec documents which no one

Good questions.

At Cooper, we tend not spend a ton of effort "formalizing" our personas'
mental models.
