BarCampEarth (formerly BarCampWorldwide) is a simultaneous compendium of
Barcamps around the world to commemorate the anniversary of the first-ever
BarCamp. This year's event will take place Aug 17-19 around the world.

In Silicon Valley, the local event is BarCampBlock in Palo Alto, on August
18-19, 10 am to 4 pm. Although the details are still being finalized, the
goal for this year is to have a multi-office party starting at
SocialText's offices, then at nearby neighbors like Facebook, iMeem, IDEO,
Edgeio, and so on.

Building an iPod remote, navigation limitations

I've got the rather enjoyable task of designing a new interface for remote
control of the iPod.

The hand held remote has the capability for 2 way communication, a full
colour 240 x 320 LCD touchscreen, and the typical up/down/left/right/enter
navigation pad found on just about every remote.

The ability presented to us from the communication protocol gives us the
exact same level of control as one is used to with their actual iPod, so I
originally planned to emulate the exact same functionality the user is used
to, but the hardware of this remote doesn't have a scroll wheel.
The user is there

upload your photos here or

Online Photo Services are everywhere. New services are popping up daily to
offer people the ability to upload, organize, and share their precious

Question for you all...

Why? Other than the fact that now with digital cameras this is the first and
easiest way to view your photos. What else?

Any Usability Test on 2-factor Authentication?

I am doing a research about two-factor authentication (those device generated numbers that are used along with user name and password for logging in to a computer or website). For example, RSA has the following devices and software:

I was wondering if anybody knows about any usability test/research done on that.

Sound Level for Older People

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping that someone on the list has some research around older
adults and hearing.

I'm working on a project where there is a sound when there's an alert
condition. The question I have is what should the minimum loudness
level be (in decibels)? The person using this is an older adult with
some type of chronic disease.

Any info would be appreciated!
