JOB:Principal Human Factors Specialist, Medtronic, full time

To IxDA-ers,

If you are interested in this role -- designing and evaluating medical
products -- but have some questions like "how much human factors vs.
user experience design is involved?", please don't hesitate to ask.
Cheers, suzanne.currie at medtronic.com.

Wherefore design [WAS Prioritizing design insuccessful, legacy applications]

Dave wrote:

"I find that whenever "agile" comes up it means that an organization
hasn't really put design into their DNA. When I say design, I mean it
in the "design thinking" ways that are as much strategic as they are
tactical. While design "research" is always an option, most seemed
to have agreed on this list that it is a necessity towards making
better and differentiated products. "

Interesting. That accords with my (albeit limited) experience with
Agile...somewhat...

time, motion, touch

On the heals of Dan's call to arms for Interaction Designers, this
seems to be right in line with the type of "next generation" work that
Dan feels we should all be thinking about and challenging ourselves
with.

The blog entry is from an organization "Touch" that I've been
following @ http://nearfield.org. They work on RFID and other Near
Field Connection (NFC) technologies and their ramifications to IxD.

Mi cuenta es su cuenta

I know this is an old topic, but I feel compelled to share a fresh, mmm,
experience. I participate in online account access with a certain western
state telco (rhymes with quest) that just today let me know about changes to
the Q- MyAccount.

- "The next time you sign in to MyAccount."

- "MyAccount still has the same great features you've come to
expect from -"

- "We want to make your life a little easier by making MyAccount
simple and convenient. Visit MyAccount today to experience the changes!"

My account? Their account?

Interactive Gestures Wiki

I hope you all will read my Call to Arms for Interaction Designers:

interaction-designers/>

Then start to work on the Interactive Gestures wiki I've started:

<http://www.interactivegestures.com>

I really think it is something important for this generation of
interaction designers, and the IxDA as an organization, to get behind
and work on.

How many designers does it take to create a t-shirt?

Two apparently...
Robert Hoekman wrote "It depends." I want a t-shirt that says this.

Me too: http://www.cafepress.com/It_Depends

I'll throw all the proceeds towards the IxDA. Btw I'm not in any way
affiliated, if this is a bad idea let me know.

I'll take suggestions if people deem my 2.15 minutes spent in Omnigraffle
not worthy of their wardrobe.
cheers :-p

Web Decoration

Dear IxDA friends,

I may hope for constructive feedback again, this time concerning "Web Decorators" (as opposed to "Web Designers"):

http://meiert.com/en/blog/20070824/are-you-a-web-designer-or-a-web-decorator/

There still are just a few people judging the current industry situation as a major problem, but this "concept" should help in differentiating the design discipline from mere decoration.

Best regards,
Jens.
