Tips on Freelance Interface Design?

Hello all,

My name's Joe Lanman - I'm a freelance web developer working in the UK.

I've been involved in the development of quite a wide variety of apps,
mainly learning tools and community sites, from design through to
development and testing.

However, I think I'd really like to focus on the interface-design side of
things and leave development to others - but I don't see many ads for UI
contracts in the same way there are plenty of short term projects for
PHP/Flash developers.

Does anyone have any tips? Are there UI agencies out there?

has already been sold out, more arriving in a week or two.

I wonder if we might broaden the conversation to talk about general hiring
strategies. Though I haven't read it, Joel Spolsky's "Smart and Get Things
Done" offers a model for finding and retaining engineering talent.

Firs time in the USA

Hi All,

I think there was a reverse topic before (?).
Anyway, I'm going for the first time to meet users in the USA.

Issues of course are language and culture. (I'm not a native english
speaker, and my culture... well... you don't want to know :-)

I have experience with european countries (previous jobs), where I
felt we sort of met in the middle, most of the times.

Is it important while dealing with highly technical audience (SW
developers ;-)
Are there really any cultural differences these days?

What's your advice to make it successful?

job: Senior Interaction Designer/SF Bay Area(Mountain View)/FTE

We are looking for a Senior Interaction Designer for Home and My
Business. The products include Quicken (desktop and online), Simple
start, QuickBooks Online edition, JumpUp. It's a web-based, v1 product
for consumers. We need someone with web skills who is very creative
(good at conceptualizing, visioning, etc.). The team tends to move very
quickly, so they also need someone who can keep up (fast on their feet,
articulate, etc.).

Understanding data from ClickDensity/CrazyEgg to help on redesign

I have a doubt about those Click Tracking apps and I would like to know your
experiences about that

I need to create a method, a logic to understand those numbers/graphics from
ClickDensity and comparing them with WebTrends data or Google Analytics.

Does anyone knows an article or something that could help?

Best sources for design process

Can anyone point me to what they consider the best sources
for information on design processes (i.e. how design integrates
with development and product mgt, req->des->dev, etc.)?

I've done quite a bit of work in this area but want to make sure I
haven't overlooked anything and also validate my current plans.

I'm particularly interested in processes for design dept. within
software organizations.
