Interview questions: Which by phone and which in person?

I have read with interest this past September's discussion of potential interview questions for IxD candidates, and I have a question for you guys. I am presently compiling a list of questions to be asked in telephone interviews and a list to be asked during subsequent in-person interviews. What kinds of questions would you ask over the phone and what would you save for the f2f sessions?

Donald Norman on 60 minutes

Last night I was jogging at the gym when all of a sudden Donald Norman
flashed up on the TV above my head. He was interviewed as part of a segment
called "Get me the Geeks!".

Poorly designed product detail pages

I have recently been reviewing the product information pages of a number of
different sites and come up with a list of themes which I consider
problematic to the design.

The death of web usability testing as we know it?

I was reading Supercrunchers [1], and came across Omniture's Offermatica

Offermatica does real time randomization and analysis of traffic from the
variants of the page. The randomization is important here for validity of
the results. The analysis is per session.

For instance, you want to see, how search box placement or font size affects
product sales. Make the layouts to be tested and see, which one increases
sales in real time.

the appearance of change

Hi -

I thought this was an interesting (and infuriating) article that
deserved to be seen more widely, and it also bizarrely reminded me of
several software decisions that I have seen in the past - changes
that appear to address a concern, implemented because it is easier
(and ironically more believable) to fake a solution than it is to
explain the technical reality to people who aren't computer engineers.

Same here, Dave. At the risk of showing my age, there weren't any higher ed.
schools in the western US offering anything remotely close to this field when I
started working.

About 10 years ago, I met a San Jose State U student who said he was in a ui
design masters program.
