Asset Management

Hi all

I work for a small software company and I am looking for an asset management system for several teams (product designers, web designers, writers, etc). We want collaboration / workflow; sharing within our teams and with agencies and vendors; library functions and versioning. Some offer the ability for non-designers to resize graphics without needed PhotoShop or designer time (not sure I want this, but it's "on the list").

It's hard to get detailed enough information from product web sites. I am NOT looking for content management, just asset management.

Must we be Leonardo da Vinci?

Yes! We most be the best designer of our generation, as well as the best engineer and scientist!

At least this is a reasonable conclusion you could make by following all of the heated arguments in the threads:
* "Design" in Interaction Design?
* The mighty UX guru has spoken - Discuss!!

We are in the midst of creating a new field. If we define this field as GraphicDesign + Computer Engineering + Usability Evaluations + UserResearch = Interaction Designer. Then no interaction designers would ever exist.

Interaction08 Selling Out Soon and Other News

Just an update on Interaction08.

We had a tremendous response to our early bird registration and have
sold nearly 3/4 of the registrations for Interaction08. There are only
a limited number of available registrations left. We're reserving a
dozen or so for students and the remaining 50 for professionals. We
expect these to be sold quickly and the conference to sell out by mid-
January *at the latest*.

So many designers work from ego and emotion that they have trouble separating themselves from their work. This often leads to an inability to evaluate your own work. Worse yet, it can make another's evaluation difficult or worth less.

"Design" in Interaction Design?

After reading a very interesting thread titled "When/Where/How did you decide to be a designer?", I noticed that many came from Art or Graphic Design backgrounds. So...

Would anyone say that one must have an "artsy or visually creative" knack when pursuing "interaction" design, as apposed to "visual" design?

Recruiting research participants

My client is a news and entertainment site that is considering
expanding their focus from a single genre to covering a variety of
related/overlapping genres (sci-fi, horror, mystery, etc.).
Accordingly, in addition to their own user base, they want to conduct
research with fans of related genres. I'm looking for a firm that can
help me screen and recruit participants and handle scheduling
logistics. Would be great if they are in the New York area, but not
required. Any recommendations?

Target ratios for skill sets or roles

At work (software company), we're wondering about the "typical" ratio of developers to usability staff. I may as well go whole hog and do a proper survey.

Is this an appropriate list of roles?

- Interface/interaction designers.
- Usability testers.
- Software developers.
- QA-testers.
- Technical communicators.
- Product managers.
- Development managers.
- Project managers.
- Subject-matter experts (customer domain, not software).

Please e-mail me any missing roles. I'll set up a survey and then invite you all to respond.
