[Event] Chicago IxDA - Interactive Experience Design Decisions – Who drives the bus? - May 14, 2008

Hello, fellow Chicagoans,
We're pleased to announce that Acquity Group will be both hosting and
leading our next Chicago gathering!

Interactive Experience Design Decisions – Who drives the bus?

For years a debate has persisted between interactive design professionals
regarding who ultimately drives design decisions. More and more often, it
seems various functional roles are involved in these decisions.

Design Conscious ... Touch & Feel

But Evan Williams, Dell Australia's general manager of consumer sales
and marketing, said today people were more conscious about the design
of technology products and wanted to "touch and feel" them.

Alan Cooper's Goal-Oriented Design process - step-by-step

Anybody have a super-distilled version of the Cooper design process? I'm thinking something like:

1. Research user goals.
2. Refine research results.
3. Develop personas.
4. Write high-level scenarios.

Etc. etc.

I guess one could make one based on the chapter/section titles from About Face 3, but ... If anyone has something like this that'd be grrrrEAT!

linkedin groups

Hi Everybody,

I recently received a number of invitations to groups on LinkedIn...
it occurred to me that we really should have an IxDA group. Is there
one already? If not, I'd be happy to set it up and send the resulting
invite out to the list.

designing for behavioral change for the purposes of sustainability

This site, "Design | Behaviour" (from the UK) seems really interesting.
They don't talk about IxD, but it really sounds like they are using core
facets of IxD theory and practice in the work being explored.

We had an event here in NYC where we looked at IxD and Sustainable Design a
few months ago and this work seems to be right on target with many of the
talking points in the conversation.

Here at Moto we are looking at this stuff

[EVENT] UPA 2008 IxDA Meet-up

IxDA Folks -

This year the UPA 2008 conference is in Baltimore. I am going, and I did
notice that the program is filled with sessions of interest to the IxDA
community. If there are those of you that are signed up for the conference -
and there is some interest - I would love to put together a social meet-up
one of the evenings of the conference.

Check out the conference website here:

Desktop application menus

I am looking for pointers on how to design desktop menus for a typical
desktop application. My problem is that in our application we have around
menu items and its getting difficult to accomodate all without compromising
on either extending it horizontally (by having more top level menu heads or
by cascading under sub menus) or vertically. I read though Jeniffer
Tidwell's UI
patterns book and also the chapter on menus iin About Face 3.0 but didnt
get too much help.
