JOB Senior Interface Designer, Brighton UK, Ribot, Full Time

Hi fellow IxDAers, we are ribot: a crack commando unit of ideas people,
based in central Brighton, UK, who focus on creating innovative User
Interfaces (UI) for mobile.

We're growing, working directly with some great clients, like Nokia,
Microsoft, the Labs teams at Orange & Lastminute.com, and Rough Guides, to
name just a few...

Ribot was set up to explore the boundaries of small screen UI and user
experiences. Our passions lie in creating innovative simple-to-use
interfaces that excite and inspire the very people who use them.

Google Insights for Interaction Design

The infosthetics.com blog drew my attention to Google Insights for Search, a service that allows users to compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories & time frames.

I couldn't help typing in the search terms 'interaction design':

I was surprised to see my home country (The Netherlands) listed as fourth and the US not appearing in the Top 10. How should I explain these figures?

I'm trying to define common activities of a usability team... So I've made a

Maybe there are some activities I haven't thought of, or maybe there are
some that you think shouldn't be part of a usability team duties.

Would you add/remove any items to this list?

Changing topic: Do you need to explain system interaction in a web

Example: The user's goal is to change a previuosly processed
invoice. The first task to perform this task is to search to see
whether someone has already updated this record. If the record has
not yet been ammended, the user can proceed. So the user must enter
search terms, then perform a query check. Then they can continue.
Since the first task is to see if the payment can be ammended, would
it make sense to describe the task, then tell the user the search
shows no payments have been ammended so they can proceed?

Silverlight pattern library

This post is to request that M$ make a (public) pattern library for
Silverlight. And, to ask that if someone knows of one they can share it with

The problem so far: I'm researching Silverlight and the substantial part of
it seems to be buried in *applications that require install*. I do not have
admin rights in M$ Vista, so I cannot see the work, thus I cannot evaluate
it, thus I cannot share it, and it is not easy for my team to make the case
for working with it.

I remember years ago when I could simply go to the MSDN section for Common
Controls and share those proto-design patterns.

Browser tabs as application navigation

Has anyone ever seen a Web application that relies on the browser's tabs as
part of it's navigation?

My company is considering this as a solution for complex data management
applications, where the user needs to open and work with multiple records
at once. The plan is that the initial page (on tab 1) would contain the
main navigation, including the search function. When the user selects a
data record from the result list, it is opened into a new tab.
