User value or clutter?

Hi Peeps,

I'm in the midst of creating a project requirements document for a B2B
exhibition website. It's early stages so nothing is final yet. One of the
requirements is a count-down feature - a clock permanently placed on the
website that counts down the days, hours and minutes to the exhibition.

I'm questioning the value (to the website users) of having a permanent
count-down clock on the website? Has anyone had any similar
experiences/dilemas before?

survey on design pattern usage

*(Note: I've had troubles posting and have had to try a few times.
Hopefully, all those attempts won't suddenly appear on the list, but if they
do, I sincerely apologize for the clutter.)*

Hello. I'm a researcher conducting a survey on user interface design
patterns, and I'm posting here and in some other forums to find some
participants. If you work in some aspect of design -- UI design, usability,
interaction design, user experience design, etc.

Mixed Signals

Mixing iconography with religious symbolism.

An interesting article [1] from Swedish site The Local (published in
English) concerning the use of a pointed index finger on traffic signals .
where does this leave our ubiquitous hand pointer [2]

Even though the technology has been around for decades, only now are we

I know Glassdoor.com was discussed on here in June [1].

It is being launched next week in the UK (nice one Jeff!) and the BBC did an
interesting piece on TV this morning with Robert Hohman [2].

Less Ix discussion more economic, but given that it was a heavily Ix/Ux
driven project by one of our peers I thought you'd all be interested.

Wireframes: Illustrator/Indesign question%u2026

One way I've gotten around this problem is to lay everything in
Illustrator out in a big spread, rather stacking content in layers. I
then place this file into multiple content boxes in InDesign, panning
and zooming to the appropriate locations.

Using Illustrator and InDesign together for design documentation is
often more trouble than it's worth, and I agree that you may want to
check out some other tool options. That said, I hope the solution I
mentioned is helpful!

[Iai-Members] Avatars in the Marketplace

Am I the only one seeing similarities between avatars and Philip
Pullman's concept of "daemons"? Especially in the context of how they
change as you get older...
