Color/contrast differentiation

Is there a standard or recommendation for minimum color contrast in a
software UI?

I will be using a white background for editable data and a light gray
background for read-only data. The text in both cases is black and is
quite readable.

Password Masking research

Hi all,

In light of Nielsen's new article seen here:
http://www.useit.com/alertbox/passwords.html along with other user
frustration feedback, my team and I started looking at other
solutions to masking passwords on creation. Although I know the
simplest and best answer is probably not to mask the password at all,
it is highly doubtful that that answer will fly with our client.

Advice needed: creating a new UI standard

I've been tasked with creating a new UI standard for my company. I
thought it would be a great project for me, one that would allow me
to exercise my usability skills and give me the means to convince
people about the virtues of user-centered design (something lacking
here). But, nine months later, I'm wondering if I'm going to be
fired when the new standard is applied to an application, and
everything falls apart. I knew this wouldn't be easy, but I didn't
know it would be this hard.

I encourage you to put challenges out there... create a matching challenge.
Or you'll make dinner for people if we get to x amount... whatever the case
may be, any encouragement from you is appreciated!

We have some great incentives to let you know about today!

UML and Developers

*Note - I am new to this forum. If you feel this topic is not appropriate
to post, just let me know. *

We have been tasked with documenting the requirements for our current legacy
software system, in sufficient detail that a vendor (preferably several
vendors) will be able to give reasonably accurate bids in response to our
Request for Proposals. The better job we do, the more and better (i.e.
lower) bids we will receive.

I'm mostly concerned with the functional requirements.

[Plug]: Early-bird pricing for UX Australia ends 30 June.

There's only one week to go until early-bird pricing ends (midnight AEST, 30
June) for UX Australia <http://uxaustralia.com.au/>, which runs from 26-28
August, in Australia's capitol Canberra.

Here are five great reasons why you should register
now<http://uxaustralia.com.au/register>
:

1. You'll* save money*. Early-bird prices save you $100 on the main
conference and full day workshops; and $50 on half-day workshops
2.
