Research methods when you only have 2-3 hours or 2-3days

Todd -

Card sorting makes a good guerrilla method especially if you have
already done some basic user research and have the terminology sorted
out.

Research methods when you only have 2-3 hours or 2-3 days

So, yesterday I asked what your favorite methods for rapid research
were. Nobody responded. Does that mean that no one here is using
research to inform your designs? Are you guys all just winging it?

Do you just skip the research phase if your client tells you "we don't
have time."? I realize this group is geared more towards design or
organizing information, but how do you inform your decisions? Have we
gotten so complacent that we just go with our gut or based on our past
knowledge?

Come on people.

Layar app - What do you all think this portends for IxD?

Hey all -

Saw a very brief demo of a *reality* browser on TV last week via Brink on the Science Channel (which btw also had an excellent demo by Bill Buxton & the MS Office Labs 2019 vision--posted elsewhere on this forum).

Basically it seems to be mobile browser (served as an app) which in real time mashes-up digital content (information) and physical context---it's called Layar and seems to be live in the Netherlands.

Very, very cool stuff was curious to know if there were any thoughts or if anyone has had first hand experience with something like this.

Writing Dates Study Results

(Apologies if you get more that one of these.)

We had almost 1,000 responses to our dates study. I've summarized the
results in my blog and provided a link to the full report:
http://www.syntagm.co.uk/design/blog/?p=58

I hope it will help change the way some sites pester users over
'incorrect' dates.

Interaction design can affect everyone

I'd add automated waiting-room queueing systems - at my local National
Health Service health centre there is a brilliantly simple multi-lingual
touch-screen for checking in your arrival together with a rather less
helpful overhead three-line dot-matrix sign calling checked-in patients to
their doctor and room.

Which is more affective, ratings vs. recommendation

When you are presenting data, please include a measure of variability
and a distribution of scores. The 3.5/5 rating could mean a bunch of
2s and a bunch of 5s and you might have a bimodal distribution which
might have some design implications.

[Job] Interaction Designer, Irvington NY, House Party, Inc., Full Time

Houseparty.com is a unique word-of-mouth in-home marketing platform
that organizes nation-wide events in partnership with Fortune 500
companies around TV shows, products and services.

Do you have an unhealthy obsession with the way things work? Do you
yell at websites and web applications that are poorly designed, like
some sports nuts yell at their television when their favorite team
messes up? Are you passionate about creating compelling, intuitive
online experiences?

CONAN Design Review

Hi IxDA Community,

I am part of the board effort to create a brand new website for IxDA. The
project name is CONAN.

We are looking for volunteers to review each page design, and also give us
inputs on the overall navigation.

The review may take something around 15-30 minutes from your time.

Each and every contribution is very important.
