Distinguishing between UCD, UX, and usability

A friend and sometimes client told me over lunch this week, "I think
of you as the usability guy." I didn't much care for this, because
I think of usability in terms of activities rather than an identity
to aspire to. It got me thinking about related terms, like "user
experience" (UX), and its cousin, user-centered design (UCD).

UX trends for big corporations

Hello all IxD'ers I'm working on a new presentation on the area of
UX trends for the near and not so near future. I did some research
online and read many of the UX blogs to find out what is upcoming. I
would love to have it more focused on bigger corporations who are not
as flexible and able to quickly make gigantic changes to their system
because this is the kind of market we operate in as a company. We
mainly do in our department intranets and corporate websites based on
big platforms like SharePoint.

UX for video

I'm starting to gather a list of sites that excel in video user
experience.

I'm not just looking for sites where the offering IS video (i.g.
hulu, YouTube), but rather sites where the content is presented AS
video (instead of, or in addition to, text and images).

My search includes interface, functionality (playlist creation,
closed captions, etc ) and overall UX. The topic and content of the
site isn't really important.

The CNN app is a great example - while video is the hero content
element, they also provide 2 summary bullet points as well as a text
based article.

new book alert

I picked up Roger Martin's new book just as it was released last
week. I am only 65 pages in (about a third) but it is already one of
the most insightful books I have read in recent years.

It speaks to understanding why designers scare the hell out of
business folks. Yes.. it is sort of a business book, but most
designers need more of this and will benefit in a big way. Yes, at
its core is the design thinking thing...

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows any research/paper that talks about
best practices for how to build a global corporate site. Any
