Search Results Pagination (top & bottom?)

Can I get some thoughts on pagination at the top of search results?

I haven't done any research around it, but my opinion this morning is
that pagination should only be at the bottom of the results set,
especially when the results set is taller than the viewport.

The context of pagination, in my mind, is only relevant when you've
reached the end of the results currently shown, and you want to see
more. Also, I think they clutter the space between the search box and
the results.

Am I missing something?

PINs for passwords

Out of curiousity, does any know why we aren't using PIN numbers as internet
passwords? A huge percentage of people already have a banking PIN, and
they're much easier to remember. If they're secure enough to protect our
bank accounts, why aren't they good enough for the web?

I'm sure there's a reason out there, I just haven't heard it yet. (And
Google gives me nada.)

[anthrodesign] Norman replies to Nussbaum

More don's argument.
"
The reason is simple. People's needs come after the technologies exist. The
need for cooking came after the taming of fire (animals don't cook their
meals). The need for communication devices (telegraph, telephone, radio,
cellphone, internet, postal mail, email) came after the technologies made
them possible. People 1000 years ago did not have a need for email, or not
even for the telephone: it took the existence of technologies to make these
activities possible, which then slowly determined the need.

nomadic/cycling/research BOF at ixda10?

I'm working on a cycling-related portfolilo project and looking for
people to share notes with. If you're interested in or working on
things related to unsupported/untethered cycling, nomadic lifestyles, or
testing products where the rubber-hits-the-road, let's get together and
share notes.
