IxDA website transition update

Dear IxDA members,

We’re very excited about our new home on the internets, and hope you’re enjoying the new features. We are experiencing a few problems, but overall the transition of over 17,000 member accounts and introduction of a ton of new functionality has gone remarkably smoothly.

Some of the problems that we’ve identified and fixed so far include:

Online or traditional training method is best?

In your profession, is self learning using online forumns and discussion groups and ebooks or attending traditional way of training helped more?

I used to read lots of books and actively using discussion forumns like IxDA, LinkedIn Groups and blogs of experts than attending traditional way of training. My last company I worked thinks that since I was not attended any training in their period, even though I was gaining good knowledge using web, that I am far behind in gaining new knowledge.

IxDA members - Twin Cities Area

We am looking to host an IDSA event focusing on Interaction Design and wondered if there were any IxDA members in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. The UPA and MNteractive groups have heavy local involvement but I would love the opportunity to collaborate with any local members to hear input and provide engaging speakers and events.

Any suggestions on how to best reach out to local IxDA'ers?

Live Mesh? Does it heed well to put up personal and work data online?

I was researching on new technology and media for RIA and found Live Mesh. I found that it seamlessly connects your data through Windows PC, Mac, Mobile Phone, and other devices. It is an interesting concept and would we not want all our work to be seamlessly, updated wherever we are on the go?

Help Me With My Experience Design Diagram?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some feedback on a model I'm building to explain the complexity of experience design. My theory is that in the communication business, we're all experience designers and that we come at that from different disciplines. To build the best experiences, we have to have time and space for collaboration. Nothing groundbreaking, but I'd like to bring some different teams together around a common goal.

I've got some feedback from people outside the field, but I'd really like to know what you think. The diagram and comments I've recieved so far are here:

It sucks to be a Jr. Interaction Designer/Jr. Usability Specialist/ Jr. User Experience Designer

For those graduating in 2008 (When the crisis started), 2009 (when the crisis was at the peek) and 2010 (when almost every 4th is unemployed in Malmö and Copenhagen Area), it really sucked/sucks to be a user centered designer. NO FREAKING JOBS! I was lucky enough to get hired as a technical writer with emphasis on usability....this was my first career job and I learned alot. Its just sad that it lasted for 13 months only.... My employer had to let 35 employees go. I was one of them.
