Business Group: Oracle America, Inc

Vacancy Name: IRC1389561

Location: Work from Home or HQ (Redwood Shores)

Job Title: Principal Interaction Designer

Recruiter Name: chris.colosimo@oracle.com

Professional Area: Product Development

 Internal Job Posting Code: IRC1389561

Organization Name: Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF) JDeveloper

Department Description:

Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF) is comprised of a runtime framework and a set of design time extensions for highly visual and declarative (web) application development. Within ADF, the Business Components team focuses on interaction with the underlying data (database queries, transactions, caching), declarative features for business logic and validation, and platform features like security, web services, state management and pooling. The bottom line is, we make it very easy to build powerful web applications with almost no coding.

Thousands of internal developers, originally hailing from Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Siebel, are converging to build the next generation of Oracle Fusion Applications on our Oracle Fusion Middleware platform. The development suite we're providing them is extremely integrated; we're not just throwing different products into a box, we're exerting tremendous discipline to produce a layered set of tools and frameworks exposed through a single IDE and a single way of working. It's also extremely complete. We're providing support for clients ranging from rich HTML, to Excel, to mobile, over the same data binding layer. We're leveraging a powerful customization engine to allow customers to define myriad extensions at both design time and runtime which are resilient to upgrade so you don't have to do them all again next year. And we're investing in a flexible, service-oriented approach which allows developers to produce and consume events, services and portlets. We're pushing the middleware envelope at Oracle and we have the vision, resources and focus to succeed.

Brief Posting Description

Responsible for creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development.  As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses. Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. May produce specifications describing user needs and internal structures for product in development.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a seasoned professional to provide user interface design support for Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) and related technologies. You will collaborate with product managers, developers, other interaction designers, usability engineers and visual designers in a leadership role to directly impact product strategy and features while delivering UI designs for a compelling user experience.

Identify requirements; develop the user model, design the UI for interaction; document and maintaining UI specifications. Produce storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, wireframes and interactive prototypes as needed. Collaborate with Product Management and development teams to evangelize UI design directions and resolve design tradeoffs and implementation issues.

Collaborate with usability engineers to conduct necessary research and support usability efforts throughout the standard development cycle. Work closely with visual designers to achieve an attractive and appropriate product appearance. Contribute to the definition and publication of UI guidelines. Mentor junior designers and student interns.

Preferred Skills:

10 years experience designing innovative, usable software application UIs for both web and native platforms. Direct experience designing for development tools/technologies is preferred.  Proven track record of applying user centered design processes and methods to product development. Ability to quickly understand complex technical requirements in the development domain, and communicate with developers in their own language. Some programming experience, ideally with Java. Knowledge of object-oriented design and development concepts, database development and Ajax is desirable. Experience with Oracle JDeveloper, Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, NetBeans or Adobe FlexBuilder is a plus.

Must be a highly motivated, organized self-starter who can successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.  Capable of “big picture,” strategic thinking coupled with a commitment to details.  Passionate about the quality of the products you design. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable interacting across all levels of the organization. Degree in Human-Computer Interaction or Computer Science is desirable, but not mandatory for someone with extensive real-world experience.  Must have a design portfolio available for review, including requirements documents, screen designs, architecture diagrams, and other related artifacts.
