Position Responsibilities
This is not an Interaction Design, User Interface Design, Graphic Design or Usability Engineering Research role. This is a User Experience Evangelist position whose main responsibilities are to:
Define and manage the processes and practices of a growing talented design team.
The UEE will posses knowledge of various user research and validation techniques, i.e., customer interviews and formal and informal usability tests.
The UEE will investigate, define, formalize and manage process, standards, and participatory design methods, for example, "The Bridge". The UEE will define and explain which are appropriate for each phase of a particular project.
The UEE is the key to making everyone in our organization more effective. For the design and user research team the UEE will define and explain the methods and practices to be employed.
The UEE will provide hands-on support as much as 25% of the time but also will delegate assignments to team members once instruction and expected deliverables are communicated effectively and agreed on.
For the larger development team the UEE communicates through various methods the design patterns, guidelines and methods to use directly when a designer is not involved with their project.
The User Experience Evangelist manages and contributes to the communications made to the larger organization. The UEE is well informed about new methods and practices and likes acquiring a formal understanding of new or emerging methods, practices and patterns.
The UEE will develop documentation that clearly communicates the intended guest experience, undeniably represents the business strategy and objectives, and thoughtfully takes into account user interface design and research best practices and standards.
The UEE will analyze and interpret web analytics and user research to improve the techniques used to gather and interpret research.
The UEE collaborates closely with major stakeholders and other project team members to ensure user experience methods are considered and deployed at all stages of the UX process.
The UEE effectively communicates through presentations, conversations, and documentation to a variety of audiences including business, technical and creative teams.
The UEE effectively aggregates and communicates research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually.
The UEE juggles multiple projects varying in size and complexity, prioritizing time and tasks as needed to meet deadlines.
The UEE works closely with user research to define practices and validate deliverable.
The UEE reviews designer's work with an eye towards existing standards and patterns but look for innovation in design.
Core deliverables include process definitions, workshops to communicate processes and practices, team communications, etc…
We Prefer:
10+ years in user experience and information architecture processes and methodologies
2 years in a role exclusively addressing user experience of large scale web sites, applications, or services - special credit for enterprise applications
Degree: MS, Human Factors, Psychology, or Engineering, but likely a Ph.D
Superior understanding of user experience design processes and methodology
Actively published in the field of user experience methods
High tolerance for ambiguity matched only by your desire to organize it
A proven desire to satisfy user goals
Expert level attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Thorough understanding of how to communicate effectively in a digital environment
Experience in client services and negotiating business decisions
You will be a leading contributor as a key member of a cohesive team providing direction and mentoring others.
