JOB: Freelance Contract IA, Fluid Inc. (San Francisco, CA USA)
19 Jun 2006 - 1:14pm
Fluid, Inc. (http://www.fluid.com/) is looking for a freelance/
contract information designer/architect with commerce, retail or
other online transactional experience. This opportunity is available
immediately for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area
(locals preferred for streamlined communication, but we might
entertain telecommuters with exceptionally impressive experience,
solid references and communication skills).
Your job will be to conceptualize and architect the next generation
of consumer experiences. You'll create the "design behind the
design" for e-commerce websites, applications, and other digital
experiences, including taxonomies, design research, customer profiles
and personas, user flows and use-case scenarios, site and product
architectures, usability test planning and execution, high-level
interaction design, information design, and wireframe screen
schematics, as project needs require. Usability theory and
information design best practices guide your decisions, balanced with
our clients' business needs and their customers' needs and goals.
You should be formally schooled in design, information science,
library science, engineering, psychology, human factors, or HCI.
You'll need three to five years of experience doing information
architecture and information design on the job. Experience designing
for online retail or e-commerce is a significant advantage.
We expect you to be proficient with the tools of the trade. Expertise
in Microsoft Visio 2003 is a requirement. Knowledge of the
limitations of various online technologies (XHTML/CSS, DHTML/AJAX,
and Flash) is also desired. You should have a keen attention to
detail, but be able to understand, describe, and approach problems
from higher-level, strategic perspectives. You should be able to
clearly communicate your concepts, ideas, solutions, and designs to
both internal teams as well as to the client. You are committed to
the quality and completion of your work, because every project Fluid
completes is elegantly architected, functionally sound, and emotively
on-brand. You can work from home but will need to be available to
come in for meetings as needed.
If this describes you, we look forward to hearing from you.
Please email your portfolio URL, a letter of interest, and resume
detailing your training and experience, to job.iacon.0606- ixdgt at fluid.com. Please tell us about yourself and how you approach
the discipline of information design. We will review submissions and
contact you if you meet the criteria listed above.
