We are looking for a Senior Interaction Designer who can help us create great applications that are user centric and easy to use.

Job Responsibilities

-Work with existing team to develop UI specifications and document visual and interaction design specifications for website standards and application interfaces
-Create and document Style guides for our application and website standards
-Create usability test plans, facilitate usability tests, analyze results, and present recommendations
-Follow User Centric Design methodology, processes and artifact creation
-Designing user interaction models, workflows and user interfaces
-Successfully communicating conceptual ideas, design rationale and the specifics of user centered design process to other team members and clients
-Collaborating with ISU teams to develop cross-product standards and features across the spectrum of web sites and applications developed for the School of Medicine

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS.

The Senior Interaction Designer will report to the Assistant Director for Web Services and works on various project teams to develop user-centered designs for enterprise academic and administrative applications and web sites. S/he will work to improve the usability, usefulness, and desirability of web applications and sites in collaboration with Information Architects, Designers, Project Managers, Software Development Engineers, and Web Developers. S/he will also be responsible for performing user center design activities throughout all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle. S/he will work with project teams on individual applications and sites to conduct needs assessments, contextual interviews, and usability tests as well as create conceptual models, personas, task analyses, use cases, wireframes, prototypes and other documentation as appropriate. S/he will be responsible for incorporating user insight and iterating designs through implementation and release. The
Interaction Designer will champion the adoption of user centered design methods throughout the application development team and work with the existing teams to create a repository of UI best practices and known solutions.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Required

-BA/BS in Human-Computer Interaction or Human Factors or, Psychology or other related discipline required, or a combination of relevant education and experience
-2 to 3 years of relevant work experience in interaction design, web application development and usability testing
-3 to 4 years familiarity with User Centered Design methodologies and techniques such as Contextual Inquiry, Persona Based Design or Usage Centered Design
-1-2 years experience in conducting usability testing
-A portfolio of interaction design demonstrating a wide variety of enterprise and web solutions -
-Experience with low and high-fidelity prototyping using tools such as Visio, DreamWeaver, Macromedia Director/Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrato
-Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to observation of user behavior -
-Knowledge of W3C accessibility and web standards-
-Skilled Microsoft Office user
-Good interpersonal skills and customer orientation
-Excellent written communication skills

Preferred

-MA/MS in Human-Computer Interaction or Human Factors or, Psychology or other related discipline</li>
-A working knowledge of browser-based technology constraints/capabilities (e.g. HTML, JavaScript, Flash)
-Experience working for companies that develop rich web based client applications in an academic setting
-Experience leading teams or serving as the UCD advocate within application development teams
-Familiarity with the latest web trends including AJAX

We are looking for a top notch CSS, XHTML, JavaScript expert who can help take our web applications to the next level.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Translate prototypes and design documents into production level code (XHTML/CSS) integrating with ASP .Net as necessary
- Collaborate with Project Manager, web designers and software engineers to ensure design vision is maintained and final markup is standards compliant
- Revise and rewrite existing CSS Structure
- Create and maintain templates using XHTML / CSS / XML / XSL / VBScript / ASP.NET controls
- Work with designers, and software developers to ensure W3C compliance standards (XHTML 1.0, CSS 2.1 and WCAG guidelines for accessibility) are met
- Participate in developing and structuring a reusable design library
- Tackle troubleshooting and maintenance work as needed

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS.

The Web Developer (Front-End) will report to the Senior Interaction Designer and collaborates with project managers, Information Architect, UX/UI designers, and software developers to build & maintain customer-facing UI elements, web pages, and sites. The Web Developer acts as a resource for other members of the web development team, and participates in technical planning and decisions relating to front-end code, including CSS, XHTML, and Javascript. The incumbent will develop new and maintain existing web applications and sites that serve the administrative, clinical, academic, and research needs for the School of Medicine Dean’s Office and departments. S/he will be responsible for performing all phases of web front-end development including feasibility analysis, project estimation, design, coding, testing, documentation, training, and implementation. S/he will also be responsible for restructuring and maintaining ISU's current CSS implementation by employing CSS best
practices and standards.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Required
- Bachelors Degree (Information Systems or Computer Science or equivalent field) or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- 4-5 years HTML/DHTML, CSS2(tableless layouts), W3C XHTML 1.0-compliant code
- 2-3 years JavaScript
- 1-2 years coding in XML/XSL
- 1-2 years programming ActionScript for Flash MX/MX 2004
- Proficiency in development tools such as Dreamweaver, FlashMX, XMLSpy and Visual SourceSafe
- Knowledge and the use of W3C accessibility and web standards and cross browser compatibility
- Skilled Microsoft Office user.
- Good interpersonal skills and customer orientation.
- Excellent written communication skills.

Preferred
- Familiarity with Web 2.0 and Ajax
- 1-2 years experience w/ ASP and or .NET
- Experience in developing re-usable page templates from CSS
