What to do, what to do....

I hope this is not seen too much as shameless self promotion, but... if
you are like me, finding and keeping up with cool events is a pain, and
finding the right places to put your budget can be annoying. B&A has a
new events calendar that we hope will help solve this problem.

http://events.boxesandarrows.com

It's free to list, and if you want to be helpful, you can certainly list
events that aren't yours but you think are good for the community. We
are hoping to make some money for B&A's needed improvements via events
ads as well... but more on that in an upcoming article on B&A. For now,
list, and discover!

BTW, Boxes and Arrows was never intended to be a magazine for just IA,
and we've tried to keep a real balance of articles about the different
disciplines that are the "design behind the design." I'd love to see
more IxD members contributing, and hopefully even joining our staff!

Christina, thanx for creating this great resource.

As an FYI to folks, the NYC IxDA group has posted last night's and next
month's events up on this calendar to try to jump start things.

Christina, something that would really make this more useful to the
non-conference type events (something timed in hours instead of days)
would be to include hour/minutes start finish times as metadata so it is
easier to find.

Also, you assume that the way to "sign-up" is through a URL. We just use
email RSVP and it would be great to take advantage of that little
heading. But on the flip side we would like to point to an
organizational URL which has nothing to do with sign up.

Anyway, I really like this service and really appreciate you making it
free. I would encourage other IxDA local leaders to place events up on
this calendar.

But I must do this Christina, sorry. Other calendar sources for UX
events include Eventful where there are separate groups for different
regions (Continents, not metro areas) and Upcoming. These are taggable
and I'm pretty sure have some interesting APIs.

I do like the Layout and other features of the B&A version though and it
is great to know that everything there is UX related.

Thanks for the feedback, Dave! (and anyone else can email me feedback as
well, offlist if you want to keep noise down).

I don't mind you mentioning eventful or upcoming at all! But this is
"our" place, and easier to remember to swing by and check what's up
after you just read an article than go dig up the right areas in
upcoming and eventful. At least, that's our theory!

Enjoy!
