"Personas" was this years' UX Buzzword.

Anyone read either of the two books that came out solely dedicated to
persona creation?

The User is Always Right: A Practical Guide to Creating Personas for
the Web
The Persona Lifecycle : Keeping People in Mind Throughout Product Design

I have them both. I've only read The Persona Lifecycle, which was a
major disappointment. In fact, it's one of the most disappointing
books on my shelf (out of around 200+).

1. The book is poorly designed. There's 5-6 different design themes
going throughout the book and it doesn't seem well thought out, or
laid out. This makes it more difficult to read and comprehend.

2. They should've created some personas for the book, honestly. They
put everything, including the kitchen sink and the neighbors
lawnmower in that book. There's just too much going on. It seems like
they took the approach that "We can't leave anything out." It's too
wordy, feels like they're repeating things several times throughout
the book, etc.

3. In theory, it has some great elements, but fails on execution.
They use a "sample" project throughout the book to show the
lifecycle. Sounds good, but their execution of it in the book just
fails.

This is one of the few books I'd have to say "Don't wast your time."
I was so disappointed by this book. I was really looking forward to
this one, but was incredibly disappointed.

Cheers!

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.

No. Personas are so 2005.

Patterns was this year's UX Buzzword.

Really, Todd. Don't hold back. Tell us what you thought of it.
