Hi,

Has any of you are practitioner in French world?

What is the terminology used for Interaction design, User experience
design and Strategic design in design consulting in France?

It seems that all they do is ergonomics/usability (practitioner) or
Human-to-Machine Interaction (academia Intéraction Homme Machine).

If you can speak about our discipline other then in these words, I
will appreciate your input. Or does what we do boils down in the end
to Human-to-Machine Interaction (according to French)?

Thank you very much
Akemi

Akemi,

Not to speak for the whole Francophone world, but Francophone UX
practitioners here in Canada (Quebec, to be precise) definitely use
the terms IA ("l'architecture de l'information") and UX ("l'experience
utilisateur") to describe what they do.

Hi!

I'm from Germany but currently studying/working in France, here is my
experience:

in france design refers to product design, visual design is called
graphisme. of course product designers who are working in the area of
interactive products and media call themselves designeurs. ihm (=hci)
does not involve many designers, most people working there do
psychology, ergonomics and informatics. they call themselves
designeur-ergonome, concepteur d'interface, créateur d'interface
utilisateur, spécialiste utilisabilité et ergonomie/experience
utilisateur etc.

interaction design until now does not have a wide reputation in france
(nor in germany).

cordialement

Hi,
as stated before, people sometimes use the french word "ergonome" for
the whole user experience design cycle (IA,interaction design,test,..),
"experience utilisateur" is used for "user experience" and is more and
more used nowadays. "utilisabilité" means "usability".
You can have a look on the Fred Cavazza's blog. it is related to
interaction design/user experience/strategic design...
(http://www.fredcavazza.net/) and he's using a lot of french terminology
(for example
http://www.fredcavazza.net/index.php?2006/06/27/1199-quelle-difference-entre-utilisabilite-et-experience-utilisateur)
