Recommendation? Eye Tracking Device for UsabilityTest
Hi Shima,
I was in your same situation about a year ago. First thing I would do
is decide what type of system you want (Headset, Chinrest, or Monitor)
each of them has their pros and cons.
Once you decide that, you'll narrow your search drastically. We decided
to go with a monitor base system (Where everything is built into or
around the monitor). The 2 companies I would recommend for that are
www.eyegaze.com and www.Tobii.com
Eyegaze solutions run between $20,000 - $40,000
Tobii solutions run between $24,000 - $45,000
The price all depends on how many extras you want.
We decided to go with Tobii for many reasons:
1) Tobii is used in a lot of major companies and universities around the
world
2) The system is portable
3) Everything is built into the monitor unit so you can't even tell you
are being tested
4) Calibration is simple and fast
5) The analysis software is very powerful and easy to use
If you would like to chat about it more, you can contact me off-list.
Hope this helps,
:Dennis

Subject: [IxDA Discuss] Recommendation? Eye Tracking Device for
UsabilityTest
Hi,
We are researching about possibly purchasing eye tracking devices
(hardware and software) for usability tests. Any information about the
following (or other related information) is really appreciated:
- What are some of the companies you might recommend that are
selling these devices?
- What is the average cost?
- How easy or difficult is it to set up and use the device?
Thank you,
Shima

Shima . . . FWIW, some years ago there seemed a lot of these systems,
used or almost new, for sale, cheap. Not sure if folks ever found ways
to formally post them. A large design agency I worked with, asked me
to help sell their barely used system; I found a buyer via a friend of
a friend (etc.) who worked in a heavy industry-machinery corporation,
with a government contract. Seemed a win-win. Hmm, perhaps Craigslist?
