Not sure if anybody else has read Jon Kolko's book "Thoughts on
Interaction Design", but I found it to be a bold series of
commentaries on what we do. I don't always agree with what Jon says,
but I love his choice of topics. Great stuff - on a lot of issues
that don't often get talked or written about. He has included some
articles by others as well - Ellen Beldner's piece (google) is
particularly good. I chuckled in empathy at least a dozen times. I
highly recommend it if you like to think conceptually about design -
and are bored with the basics or the how to books.

I'm enjoying the book very much, although reading on the subway, so still
not finished.

One part I found really interesting is the story of how the interaction
designers worked on the Mars Rover team. Esp. how the whole team set their
clocks to the "Mars Day," because time was so much of the essence for the
mission.

And then the rovers lasted far longer than anyone ever expected them to.
Lucky break, or triumph of good design?

The book is very well written, and nicely designed as well.

Chris
