I am trying to create an overview of institutes that have been
established to research the fields of interaction design/experience
design/service design. I am particularly interested in institutes
that have close links to industry or strong innovation agendas. I am
trying to develop a funding application to establish a centre in
Norway and need strong examples from abroad as a persuasive argument.

I have read that there is considerable development in Asian
countries, but cant put my fingers on details. What I am looking for
are institutes that link design and ICT or design and business where
a clear innovation initiative has been the reasoning. In Denmark the
new IT-University is an example, in Finland the new innovation
university (design+business+ict) is another. The Interactive
Institute in Sweden is again an example. Thats about where my
knowledge stops, so please help me out with more.

Simon you might like to look at Hexagram in Quebec (http://
www.hexagram.org/spip/index_en.php3)

There's also the now defunkt IVREA Interaction Design Institute which
followed in the footsteps of the Dublin MIT Media Lab off-shoot and
went belly up (always good to look at case studies where it went
wrong too).

And it's not an institute in its own right per se but the Interaction
Lab (formerly HUMLE) at SICS is a fantastic example of how to build
something from nothing to world class in a short space of time -

Perhaps you can contact the PR departments of various consumer
electronics companies to find out if they fund design education
inititives? I know that Samsung supports design education within
Korea as well as sponsorships at design schools around the world.
Here's a good article telling the story of design education at
Samsung:

I do not know of the name of the design school in Seoul, but I am
certain there is at least one (if not more) design schools that they
work with very closely.
