Scott Berkun.

Could you please recommend interesting books on following topics:
* User Experience
* Design
* Interactions
* Usability

and any other books that you think are worth reading on related subjects.

Thank you!

I have been compiling a fast library of User Experience, Interaction Design,
Design Theory, Usability books over the past few months. I am trying to find
a good way to deliver this to the IxD community in a way that is easy to
use, objective, allows community comments, ranking etc.

I posted a much earlier version of this list a few weeks ago - and will send
you some key recommendations - maybe 10-20 books - and if you have specific
interests - let me know.

Hello Maxim,

More a 'user research' than usability book - but a very good read 'Creating
Breakthrough Ideas: The Collaboration of Anthropologists and Designers in
the Product Development Industry.' Edited by Susan Squires and Bryan Byrne.

All the best,

Thank you so much, I'm looking forward to it.

I can what just came to my mind:
- Cognitive psychology
- Design role in Project success
- Visual Perceptions & Visualization

Thank you again!

I saw Scott do a presentation on that very subject here a few months ago,
he's an equally engrossing speaker.

I'd have to give some thumbs up to the ones that are always on this list:
1. The Inmates are Running the Asylum by Alan Cooper,
( http://www.amazon.com/Inmates-Are-Running-Asylum-Products/dp/0672316498 )

2. Designing for Interaction by Dan Saffer is extremely well done. It's a
must have in ones personal library

3. The Institutionalization of Usability
(
http://www.amazon.com/Institutionalization-Usability-Step-Step-Guide/dp/032117934X)
This one is not exactly about designing per se, but it's a great addition
if you are in a corporate environment that isn't coming from a background of
traditional design. (probably describes a large percentage of companies out
there: In need of UX/IX without even being aware of it)

I'm reading "Designing Interactions" by Bill Moggridge right now, and
it's very good. Normally I can't read books like this cover-to-cover,
but this is an exception:

Fwiw you could try Librarything Will to compile and share reading
lists.

http://www.librarything.com/

In the same vein there is grazr for rss feeds
http://www.grazr.com/

Both sites will give you embed code for your blog/website. I've
been using both for a while and recommend them.

Great idea Jarod, I'm a little busy with a couple of project for the next
couple of weeks but I'll grep the archives for books and create a ixda
account on librarything. We'll figure out how to hand that over to ixda
later - ideas?

Maybe, some thing like WikiPeidia better will help IxDA build up the
knowledge base, but it better be in some strict way so that it will keep
it's clean and elegant as always. It will let the growth of knowledge body
here, faster.

P.S. A Quick thought.
If there's some way to make the process of knowledge here as the following
layers, it will be great:
Layer one, the mail list as this, let discussion goes in a free and open way
Layer two, re-arrange the content into clear references, interesting
problems and design project ideas (on the web) so that the community will
contribute in more arranged way, (This is in line with the propossal of CoP
from David, IMHO)
Layer three, the really ongoing/unresolved problems in both theory and
practice (both from this list and other sources), such as the
foundation/elements of interaction design.

This may help a lot, if proper arranged.

Cheers

There\'s actually a IxD related group on LibraryThing: http://www.librarything.com/groups/interactiondesign.

Listal is also another great listing site (books, DVDs, games, TV, etc.) but alas, no group function as yet - and the all important \'send to a group\'/add to the group pool feature on Upcoming & Flickr. Anyone think of any other good asset management sites?

Regards,

Rachel
