Hans (and others),

Ok, so after about 4 versions of this e-mail (the power of the iterative
process); I have added a header to all messages (now I'm sure people will
complain about its length; so please send them directly to me ONLY). The
header tells people to trim their postings and why it is important to do so.

Since only through the voluntary efforts of those posting can Hans' (and
many other's) issues be handled, this gentle and clear reminder is the best
solution I can offer; "other than Visa numbers" or throwing bodies at the
problem. What I can tell you is that the other option is to moderate the
list ala CHI-WEB and this we cannot do for many reasons.

For digest users, I would like to recommend that you play with the two modes
of our digest version: mime & plain. Plain text is the default and creates a
long scrolling text message. MIME aggregates messages as attachments to a
parent message. The latter may make this issue of long scrolling quoteable
text "go away". Just a suggestion.

Also, if people don't like either digest option, I could suggest the other
option, which is to go to normal mode (individual messages) and then setup a
filter in your mail so that all the messages w/ "[ID Discuss]" go to one
folder and then you can even sort on thread/conversation (or just find a
friend to give you a g-mail account).

Please don't respond publicly to this message. But if you do have ideas to
help, or other suggestions regarding the list, please send them to me at
lists at ixdg.org.

Thanx everyone who has spoken up about this issue and helping me think more
about it.
