Collaborative Design Tools
Hi Folks,
I'm looking for recommendations on a collaborative design tool that can
be used in meetings with remote teams. The tool I'm looking for
replaces the "everyone-getting-together
and-working-through-design-ideas-on-the-whiteboard", which is great
when everyone is in the same location, but doesn't work so well for
remote participants.
Ideally, the tool would allow each member to add, edit, and comment the
design, while other members can see real-time updates and participate
in the live discussion (which is happening over a separate voice conference, if need be.)
I'm open to any suggestion - relatively low or hi-fi - so long as you
feel it works reasonably well (no major performance issues, rendering
issues, etc.) My motivation for using a tool like this is to work through design ideas with the remote team I'm supporting, in
advance of providing them with a full UI spec.
Trying to bridge that
"throw it over the wall" gap that can happen when team members aren't co-located.
Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions,
Nina

Nina:
You may want to give our online collaboration service Octopz a try.
It's based on Flash and runs completely in the web browser.
You can upload a range of standard office documents, wireframe and
design comps and rich media files, including video, to a private and
secure Octopz room and invite others to brainstorm, markup and
comment on designs in real-time or asynchronously. Octopz also has
built-in text, voice and video chat to facilitate live discussions.
Check out the free trial and testimonials at www.octopz.com
Best,
Rob

I've used WebEx for similar meetings, I find it very effective.

Revisting an earlier thread with a related topic...
Has anyone used online collaborative sketch boards where multiple users in a team working remotely can co-create an endless "wall" of ideas, organize stuff on the "wall" (post its, sketches, etc) and navigate to sections of it using a 'Quick map'? I want to be able to create multiple "rooms" like these for different projects. I've assessed a few tools and 'Stinker doodle' is the closest I've gotten to finding what I want. Any suggestions similar to stinkerdoodle will be of big help.

I was playing around with "Draw" that is now in Google Docs. It is pretty simple but could be an effective tool for some small things when you need collaboration.
p { margin: 0; }It's not free, but we use ConceptShare to review UX documentation and design comps, both internally and with clients: http://www.conceptshare.com/
We're pretty happy with it and the clients seem to pick it up very quickly. It does have drawing functionality (even if slightly limited) in addition to commenting.
