Job Summary:

The Interaction Designer will iteratively specify, design, and prototype UI
for Scripps Networks Interactive websites, products, and services. The ideal
candidate will be an experienced Interaction Designer with exceptional
communication skills. This position reports to the VP of Product Design and
works closely with other Interaction Designers, Visual Designers, Site
Teams, Product Management and Development. He/she will materialize a product
vision that melds business owner/PM objectives, design principles and
continuous user research into a compelling user experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Understand end-user requirements in concert with User Researchers,
Product Managers and business owners
* Design as a stakeholder in an agile development process that values
close collaboration between disciplines
* Focus information layout and user interface design
* Develop, present and document detailed interaction and functional
specifications
* Support processes for gathering customer feedback & iterating
prototypes
* Test theories that lead to alternative, leading edge design solutions
* Evangelize UX principles to all the stakeholders
* Work as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team that includes
documentation and training development; all dedicated to user experience and
success
* Accountable for communicating and meeting interaction design
milestones in overall project plans
* Work with internal and external production teams, freelance design
teams, agencies and research
* Research current and future trends in interaction design applied to
both web and physical world

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Solid track record creating interaction designs for sophisticated web
applications and service sites
* Deep understanding of and commitment to user-centered design
principles & methods
* Extensive knowledge of user interface and information principles, a
basic knowledge of human cognitive development or response (such as
psychology, education, library or information science), and good
understanding of new media technology
* Knowledge of the web, its design limitations and technical
specifications
* Knowledge of setup and configuration of web applications
* Knowledge of online coding languages, limitations and expectations
including but not limited to XML, XHTML, and JavaScript
* Knowledge and understanding of current trends in web design and
related aesthetic fields (fashion, publishing, broadcast, fine arts, etc)
* Exceptional portfolio of work that demonstrates elegant workflow
solutions
* Excellent analytical, oral, written, and visual communication skills
* Ability to collaborate actively & effectively on multidisciplinary
teams
* Knowledge of online content management systems a plus.
* Ability to quickly familiarize with goals and integrate style into
project identity
* Ability to self-manage projects and work within time deadlines
* Ability to generate and present creative ideas
* Mac and/or PC Computer skills
* Attention to detail
* Color vision including color discrimination

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

* Standard office environment. Sedentary work

Educational and Experience Requirements

* Bachelors degree in interaction design, graphic design or related
field.
* Typically, incumbent has three or more years experience in Interaction
/ User Interface Design for software or applications.
