Licensing ... Ew!!???!!! (RE: Experience design vs interaction design)

Maybe our freedom from accreditation is hurting us, Ziya?
I actually am shy of having "licensing". I think it commodifies us as a
discipline in a way that reduces our value, except to only the superstars
out there, like Architecture, but I also see that architecture is an
unquestioned value that civil engineers (their peers) never refute.

Besides saying, "be better", what ways can we as designers of digital
systems, products, and services gain implicit viability the same way that
licensed service industry people have it?
