I am looking for some interesting (or at least usable) examples of
real-time data update using Ajax. I am particularly keen on seeing good
solutions to the problem of indicating data 'freshness', especially
where different parts of a display might be updated at different times.

Please send any favourite examples directly to me and I will post a
summary to the list.

TIA!

Daylife. (or www.daylife.com)

Kinda expensive, but the concept is kinda sweet. Basically no work
after initial setup, or so it seems.
(my 2 cents).
Seems to work best for media related topics/subject matters.

I think for a news site Huffington post does a good job of updating the number of comments on their site. If you are on the site long enough, you will notice how the no. of comments change by lighting up with a yellow background.

Thanks for the responses I had to this enquiry. Google and Yahoo finance
charts were offered as examples, but aren't quite as dynamic as I was
hoping.

I found that www.advfn.com has a real-time shares monitor that does
somewhat more exciting things with updates. However, you have to
register to use it and in its free-trial form, only let you see
real-time updates for around 10 seconds. Also, it is implemented with
Java rather than Ajax, but I suspect that is for historical reasons.

If you know of or find something similar, please let me know.

Regards,

William
