Designing Mystery: Mystery vs Magic - Anticipation vs Wow.
I have read with interest the thread on Exploring the Magic of Design
(http://www.ixda.org/discuss.php?post=46102) and thought I'd start a
related thread on mystery by posting a link to a blog post...
http://digitalweek09.blogspot.com/2009/11/designing-mystery-anticipation.html
I'd be interested in responses to this post from other fields of
interaction design.
I have been running closed workshops on Designing Mystery since 2002
and have only recently decided to open them to the to the general
design community. I have been very careful about how I do this
because the tools of magicians and mystery performers are kept secret
for good reason. You will note that I keep the numbers small, have
participants sign NDAs and spend time in the workshops stressing the
ethical issues involved in learning from another field.
