Commenting prototype?

Hi there,

I am fully aware that prototype questions are many in this discussion
list, but I would like to focus on something specific:

What would you recommend for allowing clients to put comments
directly on your prototype?

I am thinking of the functionality you have in Adobe Acrobat
Professional, where you can add notes to an existing document. I'd
like to use a wireframe/prototyping tool that allows for this.

Axure seems like a good tool, but doesn't seem to have commenting
ability unfortunately. Am I right about this? I have encountered
ProtoNotes: is it possible to add it to an Axure prototype?

I have seen a rise in online tools that combine all the functions
(thanks Wireframes Magazine!). Anyone experience with those (iPlotz,
ForeUI, JustProto, ProtoShare, etc)? It seems Balsamiq will get such
a function, but I wonder how long that will take.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

Cheers,
Liou

I've used ProtoNotes for a few projects with reasonable success. The
only drawback is the time it takes to connect to ProtoNotes%u2019s
server to reveal your notes. Although I think it%u2019s possible to
host the service on your own host.

Have fun experimenting, I'd be interested to hear your conclusions.

You may find SketchFlow in Expression Blend useful for this. You can create prototypes that have a 'player' hosted as an .exe file or a collection of files that can be viewed in a browser via the Microsoft Silverlight plug in.

You can learn more here:

<shameless plug> There is also a sample chapter from a book I'm writing with some folks that cover basic functions of this tool at www.dynamic-prototyping.com </shameless plug>

Thanks for the feedback!

@Nancy, that seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, thanks! I am
definitely going to try out the Axure/ProtoNotes combo, and see how
it holds up against web alternatives. Might even post a comparison,
if I have enough time.

Notable may be another application to consider.

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.

For PowerPoint-based prototypes DocVerse (http://www.docverse.com/) not only offers commenting but also group editing, versioning, etc.

I can also recommend the Axure / Protonotes combo as well as Notable,
both are great solutions. I tend to use Notable for more graphic
design and copy related situations, and Protonotes for more flow and
functionality type feedback.

I also really like Protonotes, I use it with HTML prototypes (could do
it with Flash, or JPGs, really, anything that can be posted on the
web)

Check out Denote - http://bit.ly/8Rtojw It just launched and is still
in beta testing but it's pretty cool.
