This is the student life section of Cornell website:

Pretty simple layout. The purpose of the pages on this site is to redirect students to other portal or resources.

Tufts students have created their own student portal which isn't
pretty but it gets the job done! http://www.tuftslife.com/
There's certainly nothing I would call "rules" or standard formats
though. The key is understanding what's most important to YOUR
students.
