I am currently wrestling with the issue of the best organizational fit
for a Usability Group.
Eric Schaffer devoted a section to this issue in his book
"Institutionalization of Usability". Realizing that the best model
can depend on the size of the organization, I would appreciate:
1) pointers to any other research on this subject
2) receiving feedback from people on this list as to whether they
have a centralized or distributed model for their company's usability
3) receiving feedback as to the positive (or negative) experiences for
each model (what works or doesn't work).
3) knowing how many of you work for organizations where the focus on
Usability efforts includes both client-facing design intiatives as
well as employee-facing initiatives. If so, is it a centralized vs a
