Does anybody know where I can get a listle of mobile device user agents and their descriptions from a phone manufacturer like Motorola, Nokia, or Sony-Ericson?

Thanks,

Wendy

Unfortunately, the phone manufacturers have little interest in
publishing user agent descriptions, or even making them accurate.
While working at a carrier, I tried and failed to get the information
more accurate or even collected. I got inaccuracies listed as bugs,
but the priority was such that they never were fixed; I had to
collect the information not from our device group but from our
wireless web testing group.

You can, of course, simply query the device for its user agent
(uaprof). A better solution, or perhaps a more accurate one, is
something like http://wurfl.sourceforge.net/. Luca Passini, the
project owner, is generally helpful in email. Also the folks on
usablemobile may have an opinion on this question.

Also, if you develop for the Japanese market, be sure to monitor

There was an interesting but short piece in Business 2.0 lastmonth
about Opera browser, and how they were doing well in the phone market.
You might follow up directly with Opera and skip the manufacturers and
carriers, who have no interest in supporting or discussing agents.
