Cooper (www.cooper.com) is a leading design consultancy dedicated to
conceiving and designing interactive products, services, and systems.
Our projects range from consumer devices to complex business,
analytical, and medical systems. Cooper is best known for pioneering
personas and Goal-Directed design.

We have immediate, full-time openings for an interaction designer and a
visual interface designer in our San Francisco office. If you want to
work in a company that is as Goal-Directed about its work environment as
it is about design, we'd love to hear from you if one of the following
positions fits your skills.

INTERACTION DESIGNER

We're looking for a passionate, quick-witted designer with 4+ years
professional experience in interaction, industrial and/or Web
application design. Designing compelling and effective user interfaces
is the crux of the job, but the skills that support your design mojo are
equally important. We are seeking people with the following skills and
attributes:

- An understanding of complex systems and processes; both software-based
and in the real world of people and atoms. Do you get just as excited
about data analysis tools as you do about RFID-enabled consumer
electronics? If so, read on.

- Ability and enthusiasm to communicate with pictures, words, whiteboard
markers, napkins and ballpoint pens, sticks and patches of dirt. You can
express your ideas with skill and grace anywhere, anytime, with whatever
media happen to be at your disposal.

- Smooth presentation skills showing your work before a room of curious
(and sometimes skeptical) developers, interested (and sometimes
demanding) marketers, and time-challenged (and sometimes impatient)
executives.

- Desire to research new domains. You have experience interviewing
stakeholders and users to develop an understanding of the needs and
motivations of all parties involved in the project.

- Excellent collaboration skills. We believe that the interchange of
ideas among the members of small, nimble teams is fastest route to the
best solutions.

- Empathy. Our design method is built around satisfying the needs and
motivations of real people. If you want to make things better, we want
you.

If this sounds like the kind of work you'd like to be doing, and you're
interested in joining Cooper, please send a cover letter (stating why
you want to work at Cooper), resume and work samples/portfolio to
careers at cooper.com. If you really want to shine, put your skills to
the test and send us your response to the test you'll find at
http://www.cooper.com/content/company/interaction_designer.asp.

VISUAL INTERFACE DESIGNER

Cooper's visual design consultants are seasoned veterans, who can
present design strategy as successfully as they can push pixels. They
are ultimately responsible for designing comprehensive visual systems
that support and clarify the behavior of complex digital products,
resulting in a compelling user experience that builds brand equity for
our clients.

In addition to providing visual design leadership to multidisciplinary
teams, visual designers also research business, brand, environmental,
and technical concerns and translate the results into actionable product
requirements.

Visual designers collaborate with interaction designers, industrial
designers, usability practitioners and engagement leads, contributing a
visual and brand perspective throughout the lifecycle of the product
definition, design and documentation process.

The right person will have 3-5+ yrs experience with visual design for
interactive products and/or Web sites, preferably with a leading design
consulting firm focused on user experience. In addition to excellent
design skills, we need someone who:

- Understands user behavior and cognition related to visual design
- Can produce results independently
- Enjoys (and is good at) collaborating in a team environment
- Is highly motivated, detail-oriented and organized
- Has excellent oral, written, and visual communication and presentation
skills
- Has strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster client
relationships
- Is confident but comfortable following direction
- Can consistently deliver brilliant design on a deadline
- Has experience observing or performing user research and translating
user research into design decisions
- Has a solid understanding of practical benefits and limitations of
client-side technologies and development environments (such as Flash,
Java, DHTML, .NET, J2EE, etc.)
- Has mastered (or can easily master) common tools such as Fireworks,
Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver etc.
- Has a BA in Graphic Design or can demonstrate equivalent understanding
and experience

If this sounds like you, please send a cover letter (stating why you
want to work at Cooper), resume and work samples/portfolio to careers at
cooper.com. If you really want to shine, put your skills to the test and
send us your response to the test you'll find at
