Does anyone know if there will be a Doors conference in 2006?

I'm trying to decide on this vs. CHI. It does look like the CHI conference
has made some nice changes (free courses, longer, organization by practioner
discipline, etc.)

It seems like a choice between Inspiration and Facts. Personally, I find
Inspiration in shorter supply these days...one rarely hears complaints about
Inspiration Overload.

Regardless of the specific conferences mentioned, this is interesting.

I'll stick my head out then and complain about Inspiration Overload.
Tell me what's not inspiring -- for those who people-and-thing-watch
for living (isn't it what we do?) everything can be, depending on how
you look at it. For me, Facts keep Inspiration alive; leaning on
factual grounds, I can actually *do* something with Inspiration.
Without Facts, Inspiration is Fantasy. Fascinating and breathtaking,
but also elusive.

I guess, each of us has his/her own definition of Inspiration. What's
yours?

The next Doors of Perception conference will be March 2007 in India as noted
on John Thackara's weblog: http://tinyurl.com/fnaxg

The pendulum does seem to swing between those, doesn't it? SXSW
Interactive tries awfully hard to balance those two, although they
pretty much just put the same faces on the same panels year after year
anymore. (IMHO, for a start they need to cut 25% of the panels entirely
(and 100% of the ones about blogs).

I went to three Doors of Perception conferences and they were easily the
most enjoyable, inspiring, *and* useful conferences I've attended. I
also found them amazingly prescient, which is more than I can say for
most conferences. Thackara could reorganize Doors 1998's "Play" today
with the same speakers and it would be more relevant than ever.

I sort of get the impression that Thackara's a little bored with the
international star-studded design conference thing, though, and is
looking to make Doors a more relevant and engaged with real problems and
oppurtunities; thus the relocation to India.

BTW, there's also the extensive Doors of Perception site itself:

Thackara is also otherwise engaged in the first UK Design Council Design Biennale, known as 'Designs of the Times (dott)', in the North East of England.

Dott will involve Public Design Commissions, an education programme, and a programme of Design Showcase events. More information at:
http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/dott

My reviews of Doors of Perception 5 'Flow' and Doors of Perception 6 'Lightness' can be found on my writing site.

Can anyone drop a few words about this conference to us ignorant people ?
I looked in the site but it is not easy to find a short description that
will explain the general direction of the conference (should I take it as a
bad sign?) :(
