Are you interested in helping Microsoft deliver an end-to-end innovative
experience with both software and hardware? Are you interested in
driving research that will define how people interact with and relate to
this new product? We're looking for an experienced User Research Lead to
guide the research on a groundbreaking consumer product and platform.
You will be a key member of our team in helping understand both what we
build and how we build it so we can exceed our customers expectations.
As part of a multi-disciplinary user experience team, you will work
closely with design, user assistance and industrial design as well as
the rest of the product team and marketing / planning. The ideal
candidate must have a passion for the needs of consumers as end users
and the following set of skills and experience:
-At least 5 years of experience in the industry designing and conducting
usability studies (both field work and iterative lab studies), analyzing
data and working successfully with product teams to drive application of
results into design and development throughout the software design
cycle. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience
generating research plans, defining and tracking user experience goals
in novel product spaces, coordinating work on multiple products and
managing the work of external consultants.
-Thorough knowledge of the field of human-computer interaction,
experimental design, observational and field methods and data analysis
are required. Additional research skills such as survey design, focus
group techniques, participatory design are desired. Research experience
with both hardware and software is a plus. Strong written and oral
communication skills required. Also critical is the ability to drive
design innovation. Interest in participating in a user experience
community with a focus on innovation is a must.
-Experience managing a team of user researchers. The team size will
start small but will likely grow to between 4 and 6 individual
researchers. Experience managing vendors and temps is also a plus.
-An MA/MS or Ph.D in human-computer interaction, usability engineering,
psychology or highly related field is required
